I am an artist who is passionate about animal portraiture. When starting a commission I always begin with the eyes. This gives me an emotional connection to the animal and a commitment to capturing their character and soul, an essential element of my work.
I have been passionate about horses and Art since a young age. I grew up in Australia where my sisters and I would spend our holidays on farms and sheep stations. I was always trying to capture horses' beauty and strength using any medium I had at my disposal. I followed my passion when I left school and I studied at Art College in the UK
I have been passionate about horses and Art since a young age. I grew up in Australia where my sisters and I would spend our holidays on farms and sheep stations. I was always trying to capture horses' beauty and strength using any medium I had at my disposal. I followed my passion when I left school and I studied at Art College in the UK for four years, specialising in Illustration. I have worked as an Archaeological illustrator and freelanced. I later qualified as a teacher and found my vocation in sharing my enthusiasm for the Arts. I have now come full circle and I am delighted to be returning to my early passion.

If you are interested in commissioning me to complete a portrait, the first step is to contact me and share your ideas and photographs. I can work from high quality photographs, you can submit them to me digitally, which is often the easiest way, or by post, I can then advise on the best way to maximise the subject's personality and features. If you are local to me I am happy to help with the photographs or discuss with you the possibility of using a professional photographer.
Once we are both satisfied with the image chosen, I will produce a simple sketch showing how the portrait will be placed on the page. When you are happy with this we can go ahead with the commission.
Often my Portraits are produced using Graphite Pencil on Bright White heavy paper. I find that the tonal values of line and shading which can be created with graphite pencil enable me to capture the essence of my subject, with both detail and subtlety. However, some clients want to demonstrate richness of colour so in this case I will use coloured Poly Cromo pencils.

As you probably have already gathered, I am an enthusiastic horse woman. I have my own horse and we enjoy taking part in a variety of equine disciplines. As much of my time is spent with horses I am constantly inspired and excited by new possibilities for my Artwork. It is also important to me to ensure my drawings are accurate and I have taken part in horse dissections as part of my study of equine anatomy whilst attending clinics with many international horsemen and women.
This is a popular choice for my clients and it is a great way to capture character and poise.
This works particularly well if you have a a fabulous forelock like Beau does.
This is a popular choice which captures the profile and features of your horse perfectly. I can remove head collars or bridles from your photograph to have a more natural look or I can change details to include different tack. If desired I can change the positioning of the mane.
This three quarter angle view epitomises the view of a 'Head over the Stable door'. As with all my Portraits changes can be made regarding tack and mane.
If you want to have a portrait representing the whole of your horse, with or without tack, I can advise you on the best size and image. The portrait above measures 70cm x 50cm unframed. Once framed this size creates an impressive impact in any room.
This paired portrait is a popular style.
This piece is a narrative showing the romance between wild stallion Picasso and his mare Spirit Dancer.
Sometimes clients want me to complete a piece demonstrating a style of riding. This portrait demonstrates the journey of a Californian Hackamore Horse.
Please contact me if you have questions, either by email or phone.
This size portrait is done on an A3 sized background, enabling it to be framed with plenty of space around it for maximum impact.
These can be done in either colour Poly Cromo pencils or black and white Graphite pencil.
The dog above formed part of a group portrait of four dogs. I can work from different photos of each individual animal and I will spend time ensuring that the layout contributes to the character of the piece.
Please contact me if you have questions, either by email or phone.

Picasso
The Wild Horses of the Sand Wash Basin in Colorado have inspired many artists and photographers. This portrait of the famous 30 year old stallion Picasso was completed using the inspiration of Scott Wilson's photography.
Picasso, who was last seen in 2019, has become an icon of strength and survival and his legend lives on in his offspring who still roam this vast area of America.
'The Wild'

All items for UK delivery will be posted Royal Mail first class, tracked and signed for.
For overseas orders I will use an international mail tracking service. The cost of this will be discussed when finalising the commission.
Once we have decided on your perfect portrait, and I am ready to start work, payment is due in full. I will keep you up to date with the progress of your portrait and if you have any concerns we can discuss them. As you can imagine the time taken to complete a portrait varies depending on the size and complexity. I will be able to give you some indication once I am ready to begin. If you have a special occasion you need the portrait for then please let me know well in advance.
Sometimes clients wish me to arrange framing. I can discuss this with you and we can decide on the mounting and a suitable frame together. I have a custom framer who knows my work and produces frames of the best quality and my preferred glass is non reflective 'Art Glass.'
